ECI: Nanomechanical Testing in Materials Research and Development V

The conference ECI: Nanomechanical Testing in Materials Research and Development V was held in Albufeira, Portugal, in October. Among the international participants were also 6 from the Erich Schmid Institute. Dr. Verena Maier was invited for a lecture about “Thermally activated processes in materials probed by nanoindetation – challenges, solutions and insights”, in which she not only pointed out how important it is to ensure to test the material and not your instrument (or in some cases your glue), and also showed new results for high temperature indentation.

Adolf-Martens-Award 2014 awarded to Assoz.-Prof. Dr. Daniel Kiener

Within a commemorative event of the Adolf-Martens-Fonds e.V. on the 25th of September 2015, the president of the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Prof. Dr. Ulrich Panne, awarded the renowned Adolf-Martens-Award in the category ‘Materials science, research and testing’ to Assoz.-Prof. Dr. Daniel Kiener from the Department Materials Physics of the Montanuniversität Leoben.

Euromat 2015 held in Warsaw

The European Congress and Exhibition on Advanced Materials and Processes (EUROMAT) 2015 was held in Warsaw, Polen, in the historical buildings of Warsaw University of Technology from September 20th to 24th. The Erich Schmid Institute contributed to this biennal conference by the organization of the symposium on Severe Plastic Deformation and Nanostructuring through Dr. Andrea Bachmaier, who also gave a poster presentation there. Prof.

Introduction Prof. Jürgen Eckert

1st prize for poster at ICSMA in Brno, Czech Republic

Dipl.-Ing. Benjamin Schuh was awarded the first poster price at the International Conference on the Strength of Materials 17 (ICSMA) in Brno, Czech Republic.

His poster entitled “Microstructural investigations of a nanocrystalline CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy” covered the progress of his PhD thesis.

Besides this, several other contributions were given by scientists and PhD students of the institute, and some related pictures can be found below.

1. ESI HPT Seminar July 27-28, 2015

From 27th to 28th of July 2015 the 1. ESI HPT Seminar took place at the institute. It started with a comprehensive lecture of Prof. Pippan on the research in the field of severe plastic deformation performed over the last 15 years (containing almost 300 slides), and, more importantly, what aspects are still not well understood and potential topics for future research. In a Feynman-like statement, Prof.

Businessrun in Bruck an der Mur

ESI’s staff is known for being an internationally accepted institution in materials science research –but they also show high competitiveness in running!

Three of our PhD students participated at the Businessrun in Bruck an der Mur and achieved quite remarkable results. The team won the Montanuniversiät Leoben competition and scored on second and third place in the Montanuniversität single challenge.

ICM 12 conference in Karlsruhe, Germany

The 12th international conference on the mechanical behavior of materials, which takes place every four years, was held in Karlsruhe from the 10th to the 14th of May 2015. Among the over 400 participants from all over the globe, our institute was represented by Prof. R. Pippan, who delivered a plenary lecture on fracture and fatigue of ultra-fine grained materials, and Prof. D. Kiener, who gave an invited lecture on local probing of thermally activated properties. In addition, DI. W. Ochensberger had a talk about his Ph.D.

Danke, Doris!

Wir danken Dir für 16 Jahre und wünschen Dir alles Gute für Deine Zukunft!
